Bearing an Abundance of Fruit

Today was Laity Sunday at our church and the message we heard from one of our lay members was truly inspiring. Emily based her message on the scripture from John 15 about Jesus being the vine and our being the branches. The goal is for us to produce an abundance of fruit by remaining in right relationship with our creator and allowing Him to prune us as needed. The idea here is that we were all created with the ability to bear an abundance of fruit.

Many people live their lives cut off from God and their fellow-man, feeling that they alone are responsible for their achievements. Our creator promises to stay with us every step of the way, as long as we acknowledge our dependence on Him. So you see, the idea is not to see how many hours per day we can work. The idea is to allow our relationships to increase the fruit in our lives.

What is the fruit we are talking about here? In Galatians we read that spiritual fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Think how much better the world becomes when there is an abundance of these characteristics in people. Financial abundance fits nicely with this picture as well since it leads to our having peace and the ability to share so much with everyone we meet.

I am truly grateful for the abundance of fruit in my life and the lives of others. With this abundance comes the responsibility of sharing the fruit as well as my relationship with the vine. You were designed to produce an abundance of fruit in your life. If you are seeking to be more fruitful in any area, call me. I'd love to hear what you are experiencing and share my experiences as well.
